The space under the kitchen sink has always been a bit of a challenge for two reasons. First, the plumbing is completely exposed, including the drain valve for the water tank. That value sticks up and is not sturdy enough to take much of an impact. Second, as the kitchen is at the back of the T@G, it bounces around significantly. So putting much back there will get tossed around and could break the plumbing.
To deal with this, I’ve added a shelf, walls, and padding.
I started with the shelf and placed it so that I could use two 1x4s to protect the sink drain. To hold the shelf up, I used Stainless Steel Corner Braces on the back wall, side wall, and front wall by the side of the T@G. Then added a wall to protect the rest of the plumbing.
As the bottom of this cabinet is not level, I decided to use two of the Stainless Steel Corner Braces affixed to the shelf and one to the front of the cabinet.
While that was enough to keep the wall from moving much, I also added three Self-Adhesive Bumpers and Door Stops on the plumbing side of the water tank, just to make sure that the wall wouldn’t hit the drain value.
While I will plan to use towels to help pack the items in this cabinet while traveling, I did add quarter-inch foam padding to the shelves and walls.
