Checking off another incredible National Treasure was only part of the joy of my day on Cass Island, which included a ferry, wineries, a Biergarten, a cave, a golf cart, and some hiking.

I was very happy to get to the campsite after having my jeep repaired. Once I walked through the woods to the water, I felt much better and was looking forward to the rest of my stay.

Pressing eastward, I stopped in Monroe, MI, to visit a National Battlefield Park and found a Catholic Church with an impressive painted ceiling before camping by Lake Erie.

A few packed days found me exploring a mine, a lighthouse, a sculpture park, and Korean Tacos before leaving the Keweenaw Peninsula and heading to Michigan's lower peninsula.

What an amazing couple of days I had on my way to a friends' home in Ely, MN. I learned about mining, the Bois Forte Ojibwe, and the incomparable Hollywood icon Judy Garland.

Waking up hungry, I headed into Virginia, MN, to check out a bakery that I'd been told had some wonderful things to try. It did me right!

After visiting the Judy Garland museum, I was definitely hungry and needed some Mexican food. This place was in a strip mall nearby and mostly filled the bill.

I was so happy to move from a roadside pullout to a gorgeous National Forest Campground with a private beach after having a blast at a grocery store opening in a nearby town.

When my Internet connection wouldn't stay connected in Viborg, I headed out to find out if it would do better in the nearby town of Marion. It did, but the flies were irritating!

Established about 1876 as the Bucher Saloon, Glur's Tavern is the oldest continuously operated tavern west of the Missouri River and I had to go and give it a try.

When you're in a small town, and you need a cup of coffee, you are very unlikely to find a Starbucks or any other major brand of coffee, so sometimes you go to the local florist.
