U.S. National Grasslands

A white wooden church, identified as Zion Lutheran Church, with a steeple stands behind a chain-link fence. The foreground includes several gravestones and a grassy field, with trees and a cloudy sky in the background.
As I was heading out of the Sheyenne National Grasslands, a church steeple caught my eye, and when I saw an unusual grave marker, I had to turn around and check it out.
A black Jeep with a roof rack is towing a teardrop camper on a dirt path through the dense trees and greenery of the Sheyenne National Grasslands.
A night in the Sheyenne National Grasslands was just what I needed - a little time in nature and a hike through tallgrass prairies and woodlands. Spectacular.
A black Jeep towing a small, white teardrop camper is parked on a dirt area in an open grassy landscape under a partly cloudy sky in the Pawnee National Grasslands.
After a fantastic dinner and engaging conversation with Annika (and playing with Hugo!), I found a high bluff to connect to the Internet and spend the night.
A solitary, flat-topped butte stands in the middle of a vast, grassy plain under a partly cloudy sky in the Pawnee Buttes National Grasslands.
Hiking the Pawnee Buttes Trail was the first hike on this leg of my wanderings, and it held an unexpected and wonderful surprise at the end with a dinner invitation and new friends!
A black Jeep Rubicon is parked near the sign for Sligo Cemetery near Grover, CO in a grassy field under a cloudy sky.
On my way to explore the Pawnee National Grasslands, I stopped at the Sligo Cemetery, a lonely field on top of a wind-swept hill.
A black Jeep SUV with a small, grey teardrop trailer is parked near a sign for the Skipout Lake Recreation Area. The arid landscape features sparse trees and a wooden fence running along the road under a clear blue sky.
After a fantastic day at the Stafford Air & Space Museum, I needed a quiet place to camp and work for the weekend. Skipout Lake provided that plus a peaceful setting to enjoy the water.
A grassy field with a sign in the middle advertising the Picket Wire Trail - Dinosaur Tracksite.
Spent a wonderful day hiking into the Picket Wire Canyonlands to visit the largest dinosaur tracksite in North America.
A jeep parked next to a camper in Comanche National Grasslands.
The first major off-grid test of my nomad life, plus some glorious camping and hiking!
