I am so fortunate to have friends like MaryBeth and Tommy, who will host me in their homes and show me the sites! Plus, I visited the home and studio of America's most famous sculptor.
A charming brown building marked by a sign that warmly welcomes visitors to the Cass County Museum. Nestled among lush grass, intriguing outdoor exhibits, and towering trees, it offers a glimpse into the rich history of Cass County.
A wonderfully organized and well-documented museum in the town of Walker was well worth a couple of hours of exploring before I headed out of town.
A stone statue of a robed figure stands beneath an arched structure at St Mary's, surrounded by vibrant pink flowers. The small garden area boasts a stone path and lush greenery. In the background, a red brick building of the Catholic Church and a cloudy sky are visible.
As I rolled into Dawson, Nebraska, a statue of the Virgin Mary in a park next to the highway caught my eye. With all day to drive and explore, I stopped to check it and the town.
A centennial monument captures a group of horses and riders in motion, set on grassy terrain near a small pond. The dynamic scene unfolds under a cloudy sky, with scattered clouds overhead. Pathways lined with sparse autumnal trees enhance the naturalistic setting, reminiscent of the historic Land Run.
While in Oklahoma City, I had to check out this massive monument. I'd heard about it and wanted to experience it as there are very few sculptures anywhere near its size.
The Gage County Museum, housed in a historic train station with a textured beige facade and green trim, stands under a cloudy sky. The American flag proudly flies atop the roof. A lush green lawn is in the foreground while agricultural structures, like silos and a windmill, grace the background.
After visiting the Homestead National Historic Park, I returned to Beatrice to check out the local museum and found myself face-to-face with another iron lung.
In the quaint town of Marysville, a small street with red brick pavement is flanked by historic buildings. Wandering past storefronts with large windows and trees rustling gently, cars park along the roadside. The overcast sky hints at faint traces of distant fog, adding to the charm.
Marysville is an adorable little town, and I headed out to walk around and see what I could see. I always love finding small towns that have figured out how to make themselves relevant.
A one-story modern building labeled “Finney County Public Library” with a flat roof, beige exterior, and rectangular windows. A metal sculpture, flagpole, and bike rack are near the entrance. Trees and a clear blue sky are in the background.
The need for work often brings me to libraries. What do you know? Mark Twain is sitting outside on a park bench enjoying the day!
