Ely Minnesota
What an amazing couple of days I had on my way to a friends' home in Ely, MN. I learned about mining, the Bois Forte Ojibwe, and the incomparable Hollywood icon Judy Garland.
A grounded vintage yellow train caboose sits on tracks beside a green and white building, possibly the Tower Train Museum. The sky is partly cloudy, with a few trees in view. In the foreground, a paved area features some grass and a yellow parking block.
Just my luck; when I rolled through Tower, Minnesota, looking forward to checking out another train museum, it was closed. I guess I'll have to come back someday!
A small stone castle with two round towers and a bright red entrance stands proudly like a museum nestled among tall trees in Minnesota. The foreground features a cracked asphalt parking lot with a wheelchair accessible space, benches flanking the entrance, and several trash bins to the right.
There is so much to learn about mining in the United States, and this was an excellent place to start, especially with all of the big heavy equipment they had to explore.

Explore historic Prairie Village and discover unique sites like Chapel Car Emmanuel. Journey through small towns, each with interesting stories, including St. Thomas Church's stunning glass.
A black off-road vehicle is parked in a grassy area at Osmond Park, towing a small camper trailer. Nearby trees provide shade, and a few utility poles and a playground are visible in the background.
About 10 miles down Highway 20 from my last campsite, I rolled into Osmond for a couple of days of work while staying in a beautiful municipal park.
Council Grove’s charming small-town street features historic buildings under a blue sky dotted with clouds. Red brick and white facades line the sidewalk, with cars parked along the street. A pedestrian crossing and traffic signs are visible, exuding a peaceful, quaint atmosphere.
As I continued north, I headed into the adorable little town of Council Grove, Kansas. In addition to checking out the Kaw Mission Museum. I just wandered around town.
A red brick train station building in Strong City under a clear blue sky. The building has white trim and a small front parking area.
Near Cottonwood Falls, the small town of Strong City was once the railroad hub in the area. The trains now roll through the town without stopping, but an open caboose caught my eye.
