Ohio

Ohio is more than a state—it’s a bold testament to the American spirit. It rises like a heartbeat in the nation’s center, pulsing with invention, rebellion, and the raw energy of those who dared to dream big. From its sun-dappled lakeshores to its forested trails, Ohio whispers stories that changed the nation—if you’re listening.

It’s where revolution didn’t end; it evolved. Pioneers pushed west, carving paths not only through the wilderness but also through political deadlock, civil unrest, and industrial explosion. Ohio is steel and sweat, coal and courage. It’s the rust on a factory door and the roar of engines that once shook the world.

Wander its storied grounds, and you’ll step into hallowed soil where wars were won in silence, strategy, and spirit. National sites here hum with reverence, not spectacle—quiet giants honoring astronauts, warriors, and visionaries alike.

Ohio doesn’t shout—it endures. It dares to remember. And it asks only that you look closer. The heart of it all isn’t in its cities or slogans—it’s in its soul. Gritty, proud, untamed. Ohio is not just a place on a map. It’s a place in the making of us.

Checking off another incredible National Treasure was only part of the joy of my day on Cass Island, which included a ferry, wineries, a Biergarten, a cave, a golf cart, and some hiking.
A man with glasses and curly hair smiles outdoors at East Harbor State Park, with a Jeep and small teardrop trailer parked under large trees in the background.
I was very happy to get to the campsite after having my jeep repaired. Once I walked through the woods to the water, I felt much better and was looking forward to the rest of my stay.

What a cool day spent learning more about the Great Lakes and touring one of the massive ships that moved coal across the lakes. Unfortunately, I also got to visit a mechanic.
