Oregon

Oregon is a land carved by fire and water, wind and will—a wild edge where the Pacific crashes defiantly against volcanic cliffs and ancient forests whisper tales older than memory. This state is not for the indifferent. It pulses with the spirit of pioneers, of restless dreamers who carved homes into the wilderness and struck out in search of gold, timber, and freedom. Ghost towns crumble quietly beneath snow-capped peaks while lava tubes burrow through the earth like secrets waiting to be told.

The national sites scattered across this rugged canvas are more than destinations—they’re sacred echoes of resilience and revolution. They honor tribes that lived with the land, not on it, and visionaries who changed the course of civil liberties and conservation. Each trail, coastline, and canyon tells a story of human grit and natural grandeur entwined.

Oregon doesn’t just invite exploration—it dares you to redefine it. Come with mud on your boots and stars in your eyes. Listen to the wind where Lewis and Clark once stood. Let the fog soak your soul. Oregon is not a place to visit. It’s a place to feel feral, fierce, and unforgettable.

So far, during my Quest, I only blasted through the state on the way to Washington, but I can hardly wait to come back again. There is beauty in every direction here.

Shea's Videos and Travel Journal Entries From Oregon

A black Jeep is parked on a dirt clearing near the Beaver Falls trailhead, towing a small teardrop camper. The light gray camper with black trim and mountain design is topped with mounted bikes. Tall trees and scattered sunlight complete the serene parking lot scene.
Needing one more place to stay before I got to Mike's house in Poulsbo, Washington, I found a free camping spot that turned out to be just a parking lot, but it worked.
A small, standalone restaurant with a wooden exterior and a sign reading "Brandy's Brats and Burgers" on its roof sits in Sandy, Oregon. The building features a green base, large windows, and a wooden awning. A white BMW is parked in the foreground, surrounded by trees under a partly cloudy sky.
After a quick drive through the Mount Hood National Forest, I pulled into Sandy, Oregon, quite hungry, and as I drove through downtown, I found a place close to my heart.
A black off-road vehicle is towing a small teardrop camper through the rugged, bushy landscape near the Deschutes River. Two bicycles are mounted on the camper. The sky is overcast, with distant hills and a lake in the background, creating an adventurous overlook.
After driving through Lava Beds National Monument, in the rain, I crossed into Oregon and for the first time felt like I had transitioned into the Pacific Northwest. Rain and Green!
