It’s hard to describe the intense, overwhelming beauty of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It’s a pristine and rugged area that’s protected for only travel by non-motorized vehicles.
Erik and Lynn are pros at heading into the wilderness. Between the two of them, thousands of miles have been paddled in this marvelous Wonderland. And to see Eric, who is no longer a young man, flip the canoe into the air, put it on his shoulders, and walk a portage is truly a testament to what a life in this part of the country empowers to become.
And now for the disappointing news. I left all of my good photography equipment safely at Lynn and Eric’s house and only brought a cheap camera with me. It was still good enough to capture my smile and the pictographs we saw on a cliff by the water.
As you can’t take a motorized boat in here, is paddling the only option for seeing these? Well, you can always go there on snow shoes or cross-country skis in the brutal winters. I was very happy we came by canoe during some beautiful summer weather.
