Bound and determined to go south of Tucson and then head east to Tombstone, I pulled into my campsite after finishing my shopping and getting a shower in Tucson.
As the evening wore on, the weather continued to deteriorate, with the wind beginning to pick up. To the south and east, where I wanted to go, nighttime temperatures were predicted to drop below freezing in the next week. So I knew this would be a one-night excursion if I didn’t wake up to a dramatically better weather forecast.
However, the evening was not a complete loss. Mother Nature put on a fireworks show at sunset, and a nearby windmill and cactuses provided great photographic elements.

The morning failed to bring a miraculous change in the weather forecast, so I decided to spend a good chunk of March back in the Sonoran Desert National Monument. While it’s not that far away, the weather is almost always about 10° warmer with less wind.
I knew it would be a colossal project to restructure my website, tweaking this adventure to be even more focused on experiencing and sharing the National Treasures of our national parks, monuments, forests, grasslands, and all the other National Park Service units.
