After sleeping in the trailer outside my friend Shane’s house, I headed to Costco for new tires on my Jeep.

My time at Chatfield was focused on a few things to get ready for the road:

  • Adding a bike rack to the trailer
  • Testing the hotplate in the morning for coffee
  • Laundry
A small teardrop camper with a bicycle mounted on its roof is parked beside a blue canopy tent. Camping gear, a table, and chairs are set up nearby. Cloudy sky and grassy fields are in the background, with trees lining the horizon.
A blue speckled percolator sits on a white electric hot plate next to a black Contigo travel mug and a black mug with “The Child” and a cartoon of Baby Yoda. The scene is set on a white countertop in a cozy kitchen with wooden cabinets and appliances.

I also decided to make the bed. Holy crap is that a challenge! It’s just too awkward to do every day. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

A cozy RV interior with a colorful patchwork quilt on a bed, stacked pillows, patterned cushions, a small window with a shade, a guitar, slippers, a laptop, and a blue-and-black towel. Sunlight streams in from the open door, revealing greenery outside.

The time passed quickly and before I knew it, it was time to roll out. Perhaps some day I’ll return and spend a bit of time enjoying Chatfield Res.

A calm blue lake stretches across the foreground, bordered by dry grass and green shrubs. In the background, low, rugged mountains rise beneath a mostly clear blue sky with some scattered white clouds.
