Rolled into the small town of Jasper, MN, to get a quick night’s sleep. Planned to roll out in the morning to head to Pipestone National Monument.
I headed out on a little bit of a walk around the town to get my legs and back loosened up. An older gentleman was getting out of his vehicle near his backyard when I noticed what looked like a teardrop trailer.
We got to chatting, and I asked him about the tow vehicle.
He said it’s older than current teardrop trailers. His brother and father built it in the 1930s to haul instruments for their orchestra. They also used it to carry out the spoils from their hunting trips. It was never used for camping.
Of course, now time is reclaiming the vehicle.
A school was originally built in the town in the 1930s. At some point, ugly additions were added to the school, and now it looks as if it’s in private ownership. A huge fan blows out musty, mildew-smelling air.
But the original building looked more like a fort.
There’s also one house in town that I totally relate to. The owner had multiple smokers, grills, and griddles on their porch.
