Rain. Flash Flood Warnings. They don’t make for fun travel, but it happens.

The internet speeds in Scotland were very good, but unfortunately, the town, like many other small towns, appears to be slowly passing away.

I did go for a few walks around this small community and found a couple of things to check out. Rose Hill Cemetery my attention simply because I grew up in Rose Hill, Kansas.

A cemetery landscape with tombstones scattered across a grassy field under a partly cloudy sky evokes the serene beauty of Scotland. An ornate iron archway marks the entrance, and a white rope fence partially encloses the area, reminiscent of a quiet city park.

Scotland is the final resting place of Robert Dollard and a small obelisk marks his grave.

A tall, narrow obelisk tombstone marked "DOLLARD" stands in a city park cemetery, surrounded by grass and other headstones. A large green tree is in the background under a partly cloudy sky, evoking a sense of tranquility reminiscent of Scotland.
Plaque commemorating Major Robert Dollard, detailing his birth and death dates, roles as patriot, soldier, and statesman, and mentioning his service and contributions to Massachusetts and South Dakota. Located in the city's park, it stands as a testament to his enduring legacy.

Much of the town is in disrepair, including this historic house.

Two-story brick house with tall windows, a small arched portico over the entrance, and an American flag on the right. The house, reminiscent of classic Scotland architecture with its mix of white and red brick patterns, is adjacent to City Park. A tree is partly visible on the left.
Plaque reading "Gen. C. T. Campbell Home has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior 1886," mounted on a stone wall in City Park.

A historic marker is all that’s left of the Scotland Academy.

A historical marker for Scotland Academy, detailing its establishment in 1880 and educational significance, located in a grassy park area with trees in the background.
