When I left the City of Rocks State Park in New Mexico, I had several places in western New Mexico that I wanted to visit and explore. However, the weather just would not cooperate.

I spent a chunk of time trying to figure out where to go, and no matter where I looked, the weather wasn’t that good until I passed halfway through Arizona. So I headed to the Sonoran Desert National Monument, not knowing that I would totally fall in love with this area.

The sunset that greeted me when I arrived completely for told of happier days and a bit of warmth that I would enjoy over the next week or so.

Small teardrop camper with outdoor kitchenette open, displaying storage and cooler. A bicycle is mounted on the roof. The camper is parked on a rocky terrain with mountains in the distance. The sky features a colorful sunset with pink, orange, and blue hues.
A desert landscape with a sign for the Sonoran Desert National Monument stands amidst sparse vegetation. The ground is covered in dirt and small rocks. The sky is overcast with thick clouds, and distant mountains outline the horizon.

With a decent Internet connection, I got down to business and spent several days working. And almost every evening, I was greeted with a wonderful sunset to wrap up my day.

Sunset sky with vibrant pink and orange clouds over a desert landscape. Silhouetted shrubs and trees dot the foreground, with distant dark mountains on the horizon. The colorful sky transitions from deep blue at the top to a warm golden hue near the horizon.

It was so wonderful to finally put my shorts back on and not be freezing my butt off at night. I spent a little bit of time just wandering into the desert, not knowing that in the future, this would become one of my favorite things to do whenever I was in this National Monument.
