It didn’t seem like an evening that would have a spectacular sunset like many of the evenings I’ve had here in the Sonoran Desert National Monument. Boy, was I wrong.
As I was drinking a cup of tea, my oldest son FaceTime, and we began to chat. Fortunately, I was sitting outside, looking to the west as the sky decided to light up. I marched out from my campsite to where I could capture a saguaro cactus in the sunset.

The experience was somewhat better because I was able to continue my FaceTime call while I snapped pictures of the sky. I probably would’ve taken more had I been smart enough to set my cup of tea down rather than walking out into the desert with it. And, of course, I managed to spill some on my shirt. But it was worth it, considering the view.
