My time in the Sonoran Desert National Monument had been fantastic, but when it was time to move, I was a little fearful that I might not find any place that I enjoyed as much. Imagine my surprise when I pulled into this BLM land and saw a whole bunch of RVs and campers.

At first, I was pretty disappointed. I didn’t know if I’d be able to find a spot. It looked like it was really crowded, but as I drove around, I found a spectacular spot that wasn’t too near anyone else.

A compact camping scene on a clear day with a blue sky. A dark blue Jeep is parked next to a small white teardrop trailer. The trailer's door and storage compartments are open. Sparse desert vegetation and a leafless tree are in the background, while camping equipment is set up outside.

Plus, this spot was right on the wash and had a great view of the mountains often the distance.

A teardrop camper and pickup truck parked at a sandy, elevated campsite during sunset. The camper's hatch is open, revealing camping supplies. Sparse desert plants and shrubs are in the foreground, with bare trees and a clear sky in the background.

As I was planning on doing some pretty significant desert hikes in the Oregon Pipe Cactus National Monument, I knew I would probably need a shower or two. This spot was secluded and protected enough from other people that I didn’t need to set up my privacy shelter. You might get a little nervous showering like this, but hey, nobody’s around to watch, and the view can’t be beat. This reminded me of the shower spot I used in the Comanche National Grasslands.

A desert landscape under a clear blue sky features scattered bushes and small trees. In the foreground, a solar shower sits on a patch of sandy soil next to a folded wooden mat. Shadows of nearby plants stretch across the ground, indicating early or late in the day.

The weather was spectacular during my time here. There was not too much wind and just the right temperature for me to sit outside with a spectacular view while I worked.
