For a free place to stay for a night, Walker Lake certainly works fine. It’s a little bit too close to the highway for my taste, but the view of the lake in the mountains in the distance is actually pretty awesome.
I did walk around a bit without my camera and discovered that you don’t want to walk around on the beach, especially when the water is low, because you may encounter unexploded ordnance.
